PREFAB

Drawing inspiration from the British post-war prefab houses which were built in response to the housing shortage caused by the blitz.PREFAB is a type crafted to mirror the efficient modular design seen within the iconic homes. It's clean lines and geometric precision is reminiscent of the mid-century architecture, embodying the functional aesthetic of a significant era in British history.

Prefab homes emerged as a symbol of resilience and modern thinking in the aftermath of World War II. With a desperate need for a housing solution caused by the bombing raids on Britain’s cities, Britain turned to prefabricated construction methods. The homes were built from factory made components, allowing for the homes to be assembled on-site, reducing the construction time. The homes were characterised by their modular design, embodying efficiency and practicality.

As initially intended as a temporary solution, many of the homes have remained standing decades on. The homes were not just places for people to rebuild their lives, but also symbolised a vision of post-war optimism, showcasing the power of innovation and Britain’s modern thinking.

PREFAB offers three distinct variations, each catering to different design needs: 'SLAB', 'CONDENSED', and 'BOOK'. The 'SLAB' variation pays homage to the homes' design characteristics with its block-like design. In contrast, the 'CONDENSED' alteration condenses the design, making it perfect for subtitles. The final design, 'BOOK', is heavily cut down with larger negative space, making it ideal for smaller sizes. Whether used for digital or print design, PREFAB adds a touch of iconic British history to any design, elevating it's appeal with timeless elegance.
